Bridget Jones fans, this hotel is for you
When we think of a romantic mini break we can't help but think of Bridget Jones, heading off into the countryside, with Daniel Cleaver - hair flying everywhere. We think of reading keats on a rowing lake and that magnificent four-poster bed. We also imagine she had a pretty great breakfast, albeit it only for one.
Stoke Park is grand, there's no denying it, oversized furniture, a magnificent curved staircase and chandeliers decorate it's ground floor, but it's always warm and friendly. Staff are smiley and helpful and other guests too, as they mill between lunch and spa are upbeat.
Dinner was a four course affair at the Humphry's, where executive chef Chris Wheeler has won a multitude of awards. We worked out way through thoughtful canapés, a ham hock and foie gras terrine, followed by ricotta, basil and sun-blushed tomato tortellini and finally a bitter chocolate and hazelnut brownie.
