Montana residents have 21 days left to submit their applications for a property tax rebate of up to $675 per taxpayer.
Residents can use the online portal to apply for the tax rebate, which opened last month and will remain open until Oct. 1. Montanans can also claim their rebates through a paper form.“Property taxes are too high, which is why we prioritized and secured immediate property tax relief for Montanans this legislative session," Gov. Greg Gianforte said in a statement about the tax rebate program in July.
To be eligible for the tax rebate, taxpayers must have owned and lived in a residence in the state for at least seven months, and they must also have been billed and paying for the property taxes on the residence during the 2022 tax year. Officials in the Treasure State also say only one rebate per household is allowed through this rebate program.
Eligible residents will receive their rebate within 30 days of filing the application on the online portal or up to 90 days after they have filed a paper application. State officials say an identical property tax rebate program will also be available to eligible residents next year based on tax year 2023.
