Strong defence and outstanding pitching was again the story for the visiting Peakes Bogside Bombers in a 2-0 win over the Morell Chevies on Sept. 14. - Keith Gosse/SaltWire Network File PhotoMORELL, P.E.I. — Strong defence and outstanding pitching was again the story for the visiting Peakes Bogside Bombers in a 2-0 win over the Morell Chevies on Sept. 14.

Jordan Stevenson was almost perfect as he allowed only one hit – a Bret Cheverie triple in the bottom of the third inning – as the Bombers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven. Stevenson struck out the next batter to strand Cheverie. Overall, Stevenson recorded seven strikeouts and mixed his pitches well to induce a lot of soft contact throughout the game.Ben MacDougall battled Stevenson into the fifth inning, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. Jordan Mahar kept the Bombers hitless in the final 2 1/3 innings while striking out one.

Tyson McInnis went 3-for-4 and drove in the game’s first run when Jack MacKenzie came around to score with two outs in the fifth inning after the Chevies chose to intentionally walk Dillon Doucette. Ethan Smith then poked a single through the middle of the infield to score Doucette for the second run of the game.

MacKenzie, Doucette, Colin Myers, and Connor Myers each contributed a hit to round out the Bombers’ offence.
