Stellantis Unveils Plan to Boost Italian Production, Starting in 2026

Stellantis, the world's fourth largest carmaker, presented a plan to revitalize its Italian operations, promising increased production from 2026. The plan aims to bolster relations with the Italian government, despite a challenging outlook for the European automotive industry. Stellantis will invest €2 billion in Italy in 2025 alone and keep all its Italian factories open. The Italian government will provide €1.6 billion to support the country's automotive supply chain.

Executives from Stellantis and economic, labor and economic development ministers sit during a meeting held at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy in Rome on Dec. 17.on Tuesday presented an upbeat plan to revitalize its output in Italy , aimed at drawing a line under months of fraught relations with the government, but with production only set to grow from 2026.

For his part, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso, who hosted a meeting in Rome with representatives of Stellantis, suppliers and trade unions to discuss the plan, pledged to spend €1.6 billion to support Italy’s automotive supply chain. Over €1 billion will be made available next year. He added the automaker would invest €2 billion in Italy in 2025 alone. Stellantis is the sole major automaker in Italy, where it employs around 40,000 people.

“If the market responds, we will meet all the figures we have in mind,” he said in a media briefing after the meeting. “I do not want make promises I cannot keep.”
