Humanity Fund donates to local charities such as St. Vincent and the Soup Kitchen

In 2024, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is donating $260,000 among 129 food banks across Canada in an effort to lessen the economic hardships of individuals and families in communities where steelworkers live and work, a news release said.

Founded in 1985, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is a registered charitable organization that is funded by member contributions negotiated into collective agreements. In some cases, employers make matching contributions to the fund. In Sault Ste. Marie, St. Vincent and the Soup Kitchen both received funds from the SHF. Locals from Sault Ste. Marie presented cheques on Dec. 10 to the Soup Kitchen and St. Vincent. This year’s total donations to St. Vincent was $6,000 between the Humanity Fund and local donations. The Soup Kitchen received $12,500.

During 2024 Locals 2251, 2724, 7129, 8748, 9260 and 9548 donated a total of $424,048.70 in the Sault and area to 93 charities such as Angie’s Angels, ARCH, Breton House, Christmas Cheer, Ken Brown Recovery Home, Pauline’s Place, Salvation Army, Sault Area Hospital, Threads of Life and the Twinkie Foundation.
