Steele defeated LEE, 1-0, to advance.When Steele and LEE faced off in a non-district girls soccer match all the way back on Jan. 6, the Volunteers shut out the Knights, 2-0.
"This has been a season of obstacles for us," Steele head coach Leslie Lock said."We've been doing our best to get players back from injury and just trying to keep getting better and keep working hard. Tonight, we got to see what all of it meant." Steele didn't get the match-winning goal until the 70:20 mark, when junior midfielder Alana Gordon got loose behind the LEE defense and sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net to make it 1-0 Knights. Lock said trying to spring her team's forwards with throughballs and passes over the top of the opposing defenders is something her team has only recently been able to do.
