The proposed MetroHealth bus line project, which has a total price tag of $50 million, would create peak-hour bus lanes for the majority of the four-mile-long bus route, similar to Euclid Avenue’s Healthline.
A rendering shows how a bus rapid transit line proposed by RTA along West 25th Street in Cleveland could encourage dense, transit-oriented development.COLUMBUS, Ohio – State transportation officials have proposed giving $12 million in new funding toward improving Cleveland’s MetroHealth bus line along West 25th Street, according to a draft list of projects released this week.
The project would also build bus stations along West 25th Street, and alter the traffic signal system to “create a faster, more efficient rhythm for the buses,” according to“West 25th Street is...a busy urban corridor with an inconsistent cartway width, inadequately sized left turn lanes, poor traffic signal timing in most segments of the corridor,” the application stated. “Travel speed time on this corridor is inconsistent and difficult to predict.
In addition, the draft TRAC list would increase funding for three other Northeast Ohio road projects already on the list. TRAC is also looking to provide $6 million more for road improvements along Interstate 77 and State Route 8 in Akron, including an additional lane in each direction and building new ramps just north of the I-76/77 interchange. Another $3 million would go toward building a permanent third lane along I-76 in Akron, as well as constructing a noise wall and replacing bridges.
