Sen. Scott Wiener said he will bring a bill to address car break-ins to the California legislature when it reconvenes in January
Sen. Scott Wiener on Thursday introduced for the third time a state bill intended to combat car break-ins by closing a longstanding loophole officials say has resulted in numerous dismissed cases.
"It defies logic that this loophole is causing charges to be dropped or reduced even when a prosecutor can prove the offender forcibly entered a vehicle intending to commit theft," Wiener said."By closing this loophole, we can make San Francisco and cities across California safer." Wiener, Breed and Jenkins said current requirements often necessitate victims to testify whether or not they had locked their car doors prior to a break-in.
