The ongoing conflicts seen in the Star Wars galaxy are incredibly cyclical in nature, and this idea is proven best by a clear pattern seen over a 5,000-year period in the galaxy far, far away. This is very much by design, keeping in line with the mindset of Star Wars creator George Lucas who believed the Skywalker saga was like poetry with "repeated stanzas".
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As an example of poetic events that "rhyme" in Star Wars, the Death Star has had similar battle stations that came before and after in the established timeline. However, a much bigger trend exists in the Star Wars galaxy, inadvertently suggesting whether a war of light and dark is truly the primary source of conflict between groups such as the Rebels and Empire or if it's something else entirely.
The pattern across the timeline is fairly easy to see. The Sith take down the Old Republic, pressing in from the Outer Rim and Unknown Regions and establishing their first Sith Empire. The Jedi fight back from the Outer Rim, pressing in and overthrowing the Sith Empire, establishing themselves at the Core on Coruscant with the High Republic.
The pattern continues with the beginning of the Skywalker saga. The Clone Wars saw the Separatists building armies in the Outer Rim, only launching a strike on Coruscant in the final days of the Clone Wars with the kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine. The Rebels form the Alliance and build power on the Outer Rim, eventually defeating the Empire before basing themselves in the Core with the New Republic.
Is Star Wars Really A Battle Between Light & Dark - Or Between Core & Rim? While the conflict between the light and dark sides of the Force will always be the underlying basis behind the overarching narrative, there's no denying that there's a clear and concrete pattern to the Star Wars timeline. New threats to the galaxy's stability always come from the Outer Rim, regardless of whether the power structure in the Core is good or bad.
