Star Wars' The Book of Ajax tale reverses Yoda's famous dark side warning.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning! This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Dark Droids - D-Squad #1 Yoda famously described a Jedi’s fall to the dark side in Star Wars as, “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering” with the transition to ‘anger’ being perhaps the most integral aspect of that descent.

Ajax Sigma is a droid revolutionary who believes in a droid’s right to autonomy separate from the organics who wish to keep them enslaved. While not all droids have the capacity to experience sentience without directives, there are a fair number of those types throughout the galaxy, and they are still treated as expendable pieces of tech, despite the fact that they have independent thoughts and feelings.

Anger Led To Droid Freedom For Ajax Sigma, Not Suffering Like Yoda Says In a preview for Star Wars: Dark Droids - D-Squad #1, there was also a sneak peek at another story called The Book of Ajax by Marc Guggenheim and David Messina. While only a single page was offered, it was plenty to tell fans exactly what to expect from this look into Ajax Sigma’s history, which will be integral moving forward from the ongoing Dark Droids crossover event within Star Wars canon.

Ajax Sigma took the famous mantra of the Jedi and effectively reversed it, showing that even something that can lead one to darkness is justified given the right reason. Ajax and his revolutionaries weren’t driven by their anger alone, but by the cause of their anger. They didn’t let the emotion itself drive their cause, as that could have allowed it to twist them into soldiers of pain and cruelty.

This isn’t to say Yoda and the Jedi were wrong to warn against allowing fear and anger to overwhelm one’s emotions, as that does, indeed, lead to the dark side. However, they weren’t exactly right, either, as the Jedi preached suppression and acceptance rather than introspection and understanding. Ajax Sigma understood why he and his fellow droids were angry, and since their anger was just, so, too, was their cause.
