Star Trek may someday deep fake legacy characters but the franchise has already perfected how to recast icons like Captain Kirk and Spock.

Star Trek's incredibly successful track record of recasting legacy characters proves it doesn't really need deep fake technology. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman said in a recent SFX Magazine interview that the Star Trek franchise has "no plans" to use deep fake technology to portray legacy characters, but he's also not against it.
