Despite being removed from campus multiple times, he kept returning, students reported.
David Madison/Getty Imagesstudent and unlawfully living on campus for a year was finally located on Thursday, Oct. 27, officials said. The university was well aware that the man, William Curry, had been reported multiple times since December 2021, Dee Mostofi, the school’s assistant vice president of external communications, told SFGATE on Tuesday.
Since officials found that Curry had been living at the university, the school’s public safety department obtained multiple stay-away letters but were unable to find him, Mostofi said. He was finally given a letter on Oct. 27 after he was allegedly caught stealing a television from the dormitory basement, the, the school’s student-run newspaper, reported. The letter is needed in order to cite someone for trespassing on campus, Mostofi explained.
“While Stanford University has protocols and policies in place to prevent non-students from entering and living in our residences, the unique aspects of this case and Mr. Curry’s persistence and ability to ingratiate himself with our student community has made it clear that gaps exist in those protocols,” Mostofi wrote in an email. “We will immediately undertake a review to ensure our procedures do not allow for this type of incident to happen again.”.
