After implying she wouldn’t “run for second place,” Stacey Abrams has changed her stance
that she “would be willing to serve,” and that “having a woman of color on the ticket will help promote not only diversity, but trust.
Her pronouncement is a complete 180 from what Abrams has said previously in regards to rumors of her joining Biden on the ticket. As my former colleaguelast March, Abrams was met with loud cheers upon announcing, “I think you don’t run for second place” onwhen the question was posed to her. “If I’m going to enter a primary, then I’m going to enter a primary,” she said.

Abrams said she wanted to “make certain that the candidates who are moving forward are paying attention” to issues like voter suppression and maximizing turnout to win the electoral college vote. “If I think they don’t [have plans for that], I’ll probably jump in myself,” Abrams said. In explaining her decision not to run for the Senate, Abrams said that she’s “much more suited to an executive role than a legislative role.
On Sunday, Abrams told CNN that Biden, who has committed to picking a woman to be his running mate, “has no shortage of qualified candidates to choose from.” Along with Abrams, other potential running mates Biden is reportedly weighing include Senators
