Shane Mackenzie, director of communications for Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge, is leaving her office in January to join the Canadian Chamber of Commerce as vice-president for media relations and stakeholder communications. Other staff members departing include digital communications adviser Haifa Al-Aryan and executive assistant Sabrina Barrow.

Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge will soon have a new director of communications in her office, with her current one, Shane Mackenzie, preparing to make his exit early in the new year. Shane Mackenzie will be joining the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the new year. Mackenzie has been leading communications for St-Onge since shortly after she took over the heritage portfolio in July 2023, and will mark his last day on the job on Jan. 7, 2025.

Mackenzie is set to join the Canadian Chamber of Commerce soon after as vice-president for media relations and stakeholder communications. Prior to becoming communications director to St-Onge, Mackenzie had been director of appointments in the heritage office under then-minister Pablo Rodrigeuz since March 2022. A former junior media analyst with the Privy Council Office and ex-Liberal Party staffer, Mackenzie first landed on the Hill at the beginning of 2016 as an assistant to Ontario Liberal MP Sonia Sidhu. He left in the spring of 2017, and spent almost three years as a senior consultant with Ensight Canada before returning to the Hill in March 2020 to become director of issues management and parliamentary affairs to then-seniors minister Deb Schulte—a role he continued in after now-Diversity and Inclusion Minister Kamal Khera took over the seniors file in 2021. Also set to leave St-Onge’s office in January are digital communications adviser Haifa Al-Aryan and executive assistant Sabrina Barrow. Haifa Al-Aryan will be leaving the heritage minister's office in January. Al-Aryan will be joining the Canadian Red Cross as a communications specialist for digital volunteers and social media. She’s been working for St-Onge since November 2023, and was previously an assistant to Quebec Liberal MP Sameer Zuberi. Al-Aryan is also an ex-digital communications co-ordinator for Impact Public Affair
