Senior Jurian Dixon leads St. Augustine with 23 points and Jaden Matingou adds 11 points as season ends in SoCal Regional
St. Augustine High School, San Diego’s back-to-back Open Division champion, saw its dream season come to a crushing end Saturday as the Saints ran into a bigger, faster Corona Centennial team, losing 89-67 in the Southern California Regional Open Division semifinals before a sold-out crowd.
McCain was whistled for this third foul with 4:00 to play in the half and Centennial up by 11. Mike Price stepped up for the Huskies and Centennial pushed the advantage to 49-30 at the half with the Huskies making 18 of 26 field goals.Senior Jurian Dixon led St. Augustine with 23 points, six in the first quarter, 11 in the fourth. Jaden Matingou added 11 points and Ian de la Rosa finished with 10. Derrius Carter-Hollinger had eight points and led the Saints with five rebounds.
“Centennial is No. 1 in the state for a reason … they’re really good. Give them some credit for the way they played and not taking us lightly. But we’re good, too. It’s not the way we wanted to finish.”
