The San Antonio Spurs’ Keldon Johnson reacts after hitting a three in the first half on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the AT&T Center. When the Spurs open training camp next week, they will do so with arguably their best player on the shelf.
Keldon Johnson is expected to miss at least the start of the team's preseason slate with a dislocated right shoulder. He suffered the injury during an open gym scrimmage at the team's practice facility. Though it is unlikely Johnson will participate during the Spurs' five-game preseason slate, the team expects he will be ready for the start of the regular season Oct. 19 against Charlotte.
The 22-year-old forward averaged 17 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assist last season, while shooting 39.8 percent from 3-point range. All of those were career highs. Johnson is set to enter his fourth NBA campaign as the second-leading returning scorer for the rebuilding Spurs, following the summertime trade of All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray to Atlanta.
