Tre Jones, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and Jakob Poeltl have been available for only 16 of 29 games this season.
“We were talking about it before the game, having our starting five together again,” point guard Tre Jones said. “It seems like forever since we’ve had that.”
Before the season began, Popovich acknowledged the chances of the Spurs challenging for a playoff spot were minimal.Seven players have missed at least five games with injury. Rookie guard Blake Wesley, who tore his left MCL in his second NBA appearances, tops that list at 22 games missed.Among Spurs’ starters, Poeltl has missed a total of eight games, Sochan six, Vassell six, Johnson two, and Jones one.
The Spurs’ injuries this season have been legitimate. If players take their time getting back on the court, making sure they are 100 percent before suiting up, so be it. The status for Monday remains uncertain for Romeo Langford and Josh Richardson . Both players were absent from the Spurs’ loss to the Heat in Mexico City.
