Some spring breakers are already hitting the beaches in Franklin County.
“Well, the weather is just now getting to where it’s really nice beach weather,” said Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith.“The people coming for day trips make up a lot of people that come,” said Smith.“They don’t have a beach house or a room so they’re going to have to find a place to park,” said Smith. “A lot of times those folks have been a problem.”
It is only Thursday and the parking lots are packed, including some of the beach access in St. George Island. It’s just one of the places that is buzzing with beachgoers. Officials say they are expecting to see tons of people heading to the area for spring break. However, they will be cracking down on those who are not obeying the law.“We are going to be out writing tickets for speeding, distracted, driving, and of course, drinking, and driving, said Smith.“Sometimes it’s almost bumper-to-bumper people traveling down here,” said Smith.“If people come down here and use our beaches and follow the speed limit and adhere to the laws, there’s not gonna be a problem.
