It was not immediately clear what caused the ferry to stop, but a Twitter post from a passenger on the ferry that left Swartz Bay at 1 p.m. said an anchor had deployed unexpectedly.
The Spirit of British Columbia ferry stopped in the waters off Galiano’s Sturdies Bay and Mayne Island on its way to Tsawwassen Friday afternoon.
“Craft holding still in position,” wrote Troy Sebastian. “Chief Steward said unknown time in delay to Tsawwassen.” B.C. Ferries also posted a message on Twitter saying the sailing scheduled out of Swartz Bay at 3 p.m. will be delayed because of a mechanical issue on the Spirit of British Columbia and more details will follow.
