Southern Ontario driver facing numerous charges after traffic stop on Highway 69 south of Sudbury

A driver from Hamilton, Ont. is facing several charges after being pulled over for speeding on Highway 69 south of Sudbury on the weekend in a situation where a suspect was seen talking on a cell phone and had open liquor in the vehicle along with two child passengers.

Ontario Provincial Police members of the North East Region of the Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on March 15 on a vehicle travelling more than 30 kilometres an hour over the 100 kilometre an hour posted maximum speed on the highway in Cox Township, south of Sudbury.

"The driver was observed communicating on a cell phone, had open liquor in the vehicle and passengers under the age of 16 who were not properly secured in the vehicle. The investigating officer administered a roadside approved screening device test, which registered an Alert," said the police news release.

Police said the 45-year-old driver from Hamilton was issued a three-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and then charged with several offences:OPP is reminding motorists that the driver is responsible to ensure that all children in the vehicle under the age of 16 are properly restrained in the appropriate car seats or booster seats.
