Elon Musk's SpaceX is threatening legal action against the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after being fined $633,000 for alleged regulatory violations. The dispute highlights concerns over the FAA's ability to keep pace with the rapidly evolving commercial spaceflight industry and its potential impact on American innovation.
“It is clear that the Agency lacks the resources to timely review licensing materials, but also focuses its limited resources on areas unrelated to public safety. These distractions continue to directly threaten national priorities and undercut American industry’s ability to innovate.
According to a “notice of proposed civil penalty,” the FAA clearly informed SpaceX on June 16, 2023, two days before the launch, that the agency “would not issue a modification” to the SpaceX license.
