Last month, Southwest Airlines raised concerns about rising fuel costs and weaker leisure bookings in August, citing seasonality trends. "As we move into 2024, we are slowing our available seat miles growth rate to absorb current capacity ... and optimize schedules to current travel patterns," Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan said on Thursday.

Southwest expects fourth-quarter operating revenue per available seat mile, a proxy for pricing power, to decrease by 9% to 11% compared with last year.
