Jeffrey D. Long, 26, was found shot multiple times around 1 a.m. on May 31, 2020, on the 1000 block of South High St. He died from his injuries.

A South Side man will spend a minimum of 17 years in prison after admitting to a fatal 2020 shooting in the city's Brewery District.

Reginald DeJarnett Jr., 34, admitted in Franklin County Common Pleas Court to shooting 26-year-old Jeffrey Long, of Hilliard, after the two became involved in an argument around 1 a.m. on May 31, 2020. Columbus police say Long had been shot multiple times when officers found him on South High Street near Greenlawn Avenue. Long was rushed to a local hospital, where he died less than an hour later. DeJarnett turned himself in to police.

DeJarnett was sentenced on Tuesday by Judge Kimberly Cocroft to a minimum of 17 years in prison, but could spend as many as 24 years behind bars, according to court records. His prison time will be determined by his behavior while incarcerated. Cocroft also ordered DeJarnett to register as a violent offender with the sheriff's office in the county where he resides after his release.
