Sooke Lake Reservoir — the capital region’s primary water supply — is normally overflowing by December, but was at 72 per cent before the pre-Christmas snowfall.
The Sooke Lake Reservoir is typically full to overflowing by late December or early January, but right now the reservoir — the primary source of water in the capital region — is at about 87 per cent.
The reservoir can hold 35.3 billion gallons — or 160 billion litres — of water, with any excess feeding into the Sooke River and helping maintain water levels there. While snow could still accumulate over the next few months, the bulletin said, below-normal snow levels are a possible early indicator for spring or summer drought.
