Brady Martin, a second-year forward for the Soo Greyhounds, has been suspended for three games by the Ontario Hockey League after receiving a major penalty for interference during a game against the North Bay Battalion.
The second year forward was suspended three games by the Ontario Hockey League after getting a major penalty for interference in a game against the North Bay Battalion on Saturday.
Late in the game, Martin threw a hit on North Bay forward Nolan Laird deep in the Battalion zone just after the play moved up ice. Laird was injured on the play, which happened with 20 seconds to go in regulation time of a 2-2 game. Laird was helped to the dressing room by the North Bay trainer and coach Ryan Oulahen said the severity of the injury wasn’t known after the game.A penalty wasn’t signaled initially on the play, but referees Alex Schmidt and Joshua Houselander eventually reviewed the hit and Martin was given a major penalty.
After the game, Greyhounds coach John Dean was critical of the decision, saying it was “a horrible call.” As a result of the suspension, Martin will miss all three games on the Greyhounds’ upcoming road trip, which opens Wednesday night in Saginaw. Martin will be eligible to return to the lineup when the Greyhounds return home for a game on Dec. 11 against the Sudbury Wolves.
