Among the things being requested are all text messages between McKee-Rodriguez and his staff, council members and city staff.
“Y’all! I just received three of the craziest open records requests … all from this guy,” McKee-Rodriguez posted with a bio on Steinhoff. It is unclear who contracted Steinhoff, who didn’t respond to a request for comment.
“You have a lot of turnover there,” Morgan said. “You have a lot of competing groups and interests and power bases and no one that I’ve seen for a long time with the ability to kind of consolidate that into a single political force.” It’s not unusual for candidates to receive such requests, especially heading into an election season.
McKee-Rodriguez said he found the amount of information requested and the firm’s connections to people like Romney and McConnell somewhat alarming. McKee-Rodriguez said Steinhoff had not filed requests looking into other council members. “In today’s campaigning, this doesn’t surprise me — trying to let your supporters and people who helped elect you know that the road ahead is likely to be hard fought and highly contentious,” he said. “It’s always helpful within a campaign when your team understands there is a real urgency to what they’re doing.”
