Toronto has opened a quarter of its seasonal park washrooms early, the city says.

In a press release, the city said crews opened 32 of its 128 seasonal public washroom buildings since last week.

The remaining washrooms and the water fountains and bottle fill stations connected to them are set to open by May 5, the city said.Typically, only about 48 of Toronto’s public park washrooms are open year-round.Last June, former mayor John Tory introduced a motion at city council directing staff toToronto’s 2023 budget included $2.86 million to open washrooms earlier in the spring and later into the fall.

The city said the process of opening washrooms entails water activation — where city staff connect toilets and faucets to a water source — plus cleaning and maintenance.
