However, the sociologist noted that in the digital age, social capital can stem from visibility and follower counts, but this form of status doesn't translate to traditional elite power structures. Internet fame rarely replaces advantages linked to education, family background, or high cultural institutions. Professor Prior pointed out that social media blurs the lines between public and private, making it difficult to discern who is engaging with content and their motivations. Professor Prior concluded that excess in all aspects creates problems for humans, including overloading individuals and societies, leading to paralysis or value instability.
