Environment Canada upgraded their snow squall watch to a snow squall warning

Snow squall warning replaces snow squall watch for: Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island, Ont. Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 20 to 40 cm through Friday.Very poor visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow. While some disorganized lake effect snow may affect the area tonight, more significant lake effect snow squalls off Lake Superior are forecast to develop Thursday morning and persist into Friday.

The snow squall bands will likely shift from time to time, although amounts higher than 40 cm are possible if a band locks in for an extended period.Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
