LAKE LOUISE

Twitter: @MtNorquayIf you missed out on the last Ladies Day at Nakiska, there’s still one more opportunity to take advantage of the awesome opportunity on March 21. This is the type of day you’ll want to get locked in early. You can sign up to get transported to and from the Kananaskis resort, where they’ll get a lift pass, a gourmet lunch and guided instruction tailored specifically to women.

There should be lots of great snow whenever Nakiska does reopen, though. The Kananaskis resort got hit with 4 cm of fresh snow over the past seven days and its total for the winter is now 169 cm.It seems like there’s a big sports event going on every week at WinSport. We’ve already seen multiple World Cup competitions at the Calgary facility, and this month it will take on a slightly more local angle. First, you’ve got Alberta Snowboard Provincials, which are set for March 18-19.

The ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships are going on at WInSport until March 5, by the way, so there’s more elite competition to check out for anyone looking for something to do this weekend. While a lot of other loyalty cards stopped being available around Christmas, you can still get your hands on a Marmot Escape Card.

Marmot has great coverage all over the mountain and the forecast is calling for even more snow. The last week saw 5 cm of new snow fall on the slopes and the season total is now sitting at 288 cm.Article contentSnow? Yeah, they’ve had a lot of it at Kicking Horse recently. More than a metre in the last two weeks, actually. It’s been snowing hard, basically, and the last seven days saw 55 cm of the fluffy white stuff fall on the Golden, B.C. resort. That’s brought the season total to 429 cm.

The resort’s had a busy season and it isn’t slowing down. On March 25-27, it will be hosting the Steep Dreams Ski Mountaineering Festival, with three events taking place over the weekend. There’s a vertical race on Friday, an individual race on Saturday and then Canada’s only teams race on Sunday. So yeah, a lot of races for people who like going up the mountain, as well as down.
