Environment Canada says an early spring storm expected to bring strong winds, rain and the potential for wet snow Tuesday through Thursday.
The weather agency says the rain, which may be heavy at times, is expected to begin on Tuesday and continue to Wednesday in southern Durham. They say on Wednesday night as cooler air pushes in, the rain may mix with or transition to wet snow.Environment Canada says rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 milimetres are possible by Wednesday with only trace amounts of wet snow expected at this time.
They also warn that strong winds will develop Tuesday night with wind gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour.The special weather statement for northern Durham is the same, but it’s warning the area could see significant snow by Thursday. The weather agency says precipitation will start of as rain before transitioning to snow Wednesday afternoon and into Wednesday night. The higher terrain through the Oak Ridges Moraine and along the Niagara Escarpment northwest of the GTA is expected to have the highest probability for significant snow accumulation. Wind gusts in northern Durham could also hit up to 80 kilometres per hour.
