Norris wore a yellow non\u002Dcontact jersey Thursday after undergoing shoulder surgery last February.

Coach D.J. Smith said that while Norris won’t play in the club’s first two exhibition games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday and Monday, he will suit up in some games and the Senators have no doubt that he will be ready to start the season after undergoing shoulder surgery last February.

“I just want to feel good when it matters the most. So we’re just taking precautions and I trust those guys.” “I took a few bumps today actually. I felt pretty good. I did some stuff after practice and I didn’t feel any distress. I definitely settled in the second half a little bit more. The first day is always crazy because everybody’s going 100 m.p.h.”

“Clearly, I want him to get back and get feeling good and I don’t think he wants to be in a yellow jersey either. But we’ve got to do what’s right by the player and we’ve got to make sure he’s 100 per cent and ready to go. He was able to do almost everything out there today.”“We just don’t want anyone hitting him hard,” Smith said. “In training camp, you don’t blame guys because guys are trying to get jobs and these are big men out there.

“It’s a little different but we’ve skating together here for two or three weeks and it’s just about reading off each other,” Chabot said. “We’re both capable of playing on each side. It’s about getting repetition. That’s what practice and the pre-season is about. It went well on day one.
