He was previously the safeties coach at USC for two years and helped Talanoa Hufanga to a consensus First-Team All-America honor in 2020. Naivar was also the safeties coach at Texas from 2017 to 2019.
SMU finished the season with a 7-6 record after a 24-23 to BYU Saturday. The 9-3 Coastal Carolina team will play East Carolina in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27.
