Battling for months in a tougher and more demanding environment should pay off the next time March arrives — as long as the Coogs can replicate their American Athletic Conference strength in the strongest basketball conference in the country. And we all saw the same thing. Just like against Baylor in 2021 and Villanova in ’22, the Coogs displayed serious shortcomings in an 89-75 defeat to Miami.That’s a huge TBD for Sampson’s program, which has spent years maximizing the talent found within three- and four-star recruits, and getting the latest collection of Coogs to buy into a team concept that prizes defense and selflessness.
