The Wellington Flyers defeated the Kensington Granites 5-4 in Game 7 of the best-of-seven championship series in the West Prince Senior Hockey League before a capacity crowd at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on April 15. “A lot of these guys play rec hockey and I’ll say this, a lot of them are past their glory days, it feels great to come in and you see your regular fans here night after night supporting you.”The Flyers rewarded their loyal fans with a 5-4 win over the Kensington Granites. The Flyers built a 3-0 series lead before Kensington rallied to win three straight games, including overcoming a three-goal deficit in the third period of Game 6.
“The rink here was packed and you can’t ask for better community for support. It’s a great little league to support the rinks.”McNeill said it felt great for the Flyers to win a championship for their loyal fan base. He said he did a little research, and it is believed the last time a Wellington team won a senior championship was in 2003.Gallant is a prime example of what it means to play for your local team.
“This is great for the communities,” said Kensington assistant coach Tyler Doucette. “It’s great to see the people coming to the rinks.
