A sixth-grade student at a Jersey City public school was arrested Thursday and charged with bringing a pellet gun into school, an incident the district superintendent called “a terrible mistake.” When it was reported that the 12-year-old boy had a plastic gun and plastic pellets at School 38 on Stegman Parkway, the principal quickly notified the police and the student was arrested, Superintendent Norma Fernandez said.
The student’s name was not released because of his age. Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said the boy, who never brandished the gun, was charged with possession of a handgun.
