SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. reported a loss of $16.5 million, or 26 cents a share, on a record $293.3 million in revenue during the three months ended March 31. That loss was 83 percent bigger than a year ago, while revenue was up 8.4 percent.

In March, a 3,000-square-foot area dubbed Kata’s Kookaburra Cove with water features, a splash pad and cabanas opened at Aquatica San Antonio.

Roughly 1.6 million people visited its 27 parks, down 5 percent from last year. Total guest spending per capita soared 7 percent to $80.88, admissions spending per capita increased 10 percent to $47.81 and in-park spending per capita rose 3 percent to $33.07.
