Side by side in the bright yellow seats of a backyard swing set are Jen Dingle’s wildest dreams. Dingle was 14 the first time she was told this seemingly...
Jen Dingle, who took part in a Baylor University Medical Center program, was the first in the country to deliver two children after a uterus transplant.
Jen Dingle waves at friends as she plays with blocks with her two children, Jia, 4 , Jade, 2, and husband, Jason. Donors, recipients and babies that have been part of Baylor University Medical Center’s uterus transplant program gathered at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Dallas for a reunion Saturday.
By November, the clinic found a living donor, and a month after the nine-hour transplant surgery, Dingle experiencing her first period, at age 27, proved the first step of the process to be a success. With only four embryos left, the first three attempts were unsuccessful. In July 2019, the fourth and final transfer made history, and Jade was born in February 2020.
Jen Dingle meets her donor, Cassie Dunn of Arlington, for just the second time. She and her husband, Jason, and two children got to see donors, recipients and babies that have been part of Baylor University Medical Center’s uterus transplant program during a reunion at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on Saturday.
“I wanted to do something for somebody else, to give somebody else that gift of having children,” Dunn said, “but I couldn’t have pictured then how [the Dingles] would become my extended family. I don’t see my life without her in it.”
