Support women for a better future, Governor General says on International Women’s Day
Supporting women leads to better futures for all, Canada’s Governor General said Friday as she reflected on her experience as a woman in power.
But neither gender nor hate should ever limit someone’s potential or ambitions in any field, she said. Her own experiences with online hate impacted her mental health, she said. Last year, Simon’s office had to disable comments on social media posts in order to filter out racist and sexist comments. The event, to be held April 11 at Rideau Hall, will gather academics, journalists, young people, officials, advocates and mental health experts to share their experiences and learn about initiatives against online abuse.
