M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, will make her directorial debut with The Watchers, a creature feature set for release in 2024.
M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, is set to make her directorial debut in film with her upcoming horror film The Watchers. The younger Shyamalan's prior work for the screen has been on television, having written and directed multiple episodes of Servant, which was created by her father. Shyamalan also acted as the second unit director for her father's latest two films, Old and Knock at the Cabin.
According to Deadline, Shyamalan's directorial debut will be The Watchers, a film adapted from the A.M. Shine novel of the same name about a 28-year-old artist who is stranded in a densely forested area of Ireland, becoming trapped with three strangers under the watchful eyes of mysterious creatures lurking in the night. The movie is set to begin filming later this year, with a release date already set for June 7, 2024. M. Night Shyamalan himself will serve as a producer for the film.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY We couldn’t be more excited to make Ishana’s first film with The Watchers. Equal parts visual, immersive, and terrifying, the script grips you from the first page and never lets go.How M. Night Shyamalan's Films Can Influence The Watchers Due to her work with her father on Old, Knock at the Cabin, and Servant, it's no surprise that Ishana Night Shyamalan would want to follow in her father's footsteps in the film industry.
While M. Night Shyamalan is not known for having mysterious creatures in many of his movies, the description for The Watchers harkens back to Shyamalan's 2004 film The Village. One of the few Shyamalan films with monsters in the form of Those We Don't Speak Of, The Village subverted the creature feature by making the monsters people dressed in costumes.
It's also possible that, given his role as a producer for The Watchers, M. Night Shyamalan can help his daughter by giving her pointers on how best to direct the film. If he takes a more hands-on role behind the scenes of The Watchers, Shyamalan could directly guide his daughter using his own filmmaking experience. However, it's also likely that Ishana Night Shyamalan will shape the film using her own directorial style. The Watchers will be an interesting look into how M.
