Should the Commanders consider drafting Bijan Robinson? HTTC | NFLDraft
A position that teams have passed on more and more on night one of the NFL draft as the years have gone by, the “value” at running back, ultimately, remains in the eye of the beholder. This is all despite running back being a spot where the elite of the elite can shoulder an offensive workload—take Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey, and Jonathan Taylor off their teams and tell me how “un-valuable” they are on Sundays.
For the Washington Commanders, the 2023 NFL Draft finds them in an opportune spot with a variety of holes to fill. Corner, tackle, tight end, running back … look, everything remains on the table just a few short days away from draft night. With newly minted offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in the building, the question has been asked, ifWashington’s roster currently has Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson as the two workhorses—they’re expected to play off each other extremely well this fall.
A note on the Commanders at RB, additions via FA or trade are not expected* to occur, a source said. They are expected to be interested, however, in “adding talent on Day 3/UDFAs” that offer value on teams. The day-three and UDFA buckets look to be the spot where general manager Martin Mayhew could make a move for a complementary weapon and talent with some juice on special teams—the return spot hasn’t been nailed down since Brandon Banks left town .
Robinson will be a stud for whoever turns in his draft card this weekend, but Washington doesn’t have the luxury ofwith its selections currently. Adding players at positions of need should remain its top priority.
