Daily life may have changed for the Olympic gold medalist, ShotDiva but she’s speaking out on racial injustice and getting stronger with workouts in her garage.
In the 45-minute video, Carter shared examples of micro and macro aggressions that she’s experienced throughout her life as a black woman and athlete.
“Now is the time to re-evaluate how you see those who are different than you. You could be part of the problem.” Afterward, many of her followers reached out with positive responses. One woman told Carter via direct message that she was inspired to have a conversation with her grandmother who had shown racial biases. The woman told Carter that her grandmother cried following the conversation because she realized she was part of the problem.
By being more purposeful about filling the coaching roles and event spaces with a wider range of voices, Carter believes more people will feel accepted in the sport.
