Gordon Shortt, a fourth-year swimmer from Simcoe, Ont., repeated as the Athenaeum male athlete of the year while Ella Collins, a second-year swimmer from Halifax, was named the Jean Marsh female athlete of the year.
Collins had a record-setting season for the Axewomen, breaking two AUS records in the 50m and 200m breaststroke event. Couture, who won the Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs in 2022, was named an AUS first team all-star and to the conference’s all-rookie team. The goalie from Levis, Que., started 21 games for the Axemen, finishing third in the conference in save percentage at .915 and fourth in goals-against average at 2.76. He also played the third most minutes amongst AUS goaltenders.
