Meet 38 members of the 'Shopify Mafia' who embraced the e-commerce giant's entrepreneurial spirit and launched their own companies

Even before he joined Shopify, Fahd Ananta had founded a couple of software companies, including the notification aggregator Chime, which was acquired by HubSpot in 2013.

Some current and former Shopify executives also came aboard, including its vice president of product acceleration, Satish Kanwar ; its vice president of engineering, Farhan Thawar; and Sharma, the former director of product marketing. Patricio added that he had gotten valuable advice from company leaders like Craig Miller, Shopify's former chief marketing officer and chief product officer, and Kanwar, Shopify's vice president of product acceleration, who both encouraged him to pursue the business.

At the beginning of 2022, Patricio's team was researching ways to improve Bull & Cleaver's conversion rates. A big part of that was using discount codes, but they found that customers were often forgetting to add the discount codes before checking out. Patricio began testing automatically applied discounts at checkout, and pop-up notifications that would let customers know it had been applied.

It's not fully slapstick comedy -- wine-stomping scenes aside -- and hardly a serious crime saga.
