GILROY, Calif.—The suspected shooter used an AK-47-style semiautomatic rifle to kill a six-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and a man in his twenties in Sunday’s attack at a garlic festival here, police said Monday.
The 19-year-old suspect, Santino William Legan, who was killed by police, legally purchased the rifle in Nevada on July 9, Gilroy police chief Scot Smithee said at a Monday morning briefing. In California, the legal age for purchasing a rifle is 21.
