Framber Valdez let down by errors, lack of timely hits in Astros' loss to Rangers

He left the field with a deficit he did little to dig, one his sputtering lineup seemed incapable of overcoming.
Valdez surrendered four runs across 6 ⅔ innings. Two were earned. No pitcher in the sport generates more ground balls than Valdez. Elite defense behind him is mandatory. On Tuesday, three of Houston’s four infielders committed errors while he worked.Alex Bregman booted one in the fifth before Yuli Gurriel bobbled another in the seventh. Both of the baserunners reached third.
For most of the six frames that preceded it, Valdez navigated around the awful defense. He stranded Bregman’s gaffe in the fifth, which interrupted a string of eight straight Rangers retired.
