Never mind the quiet quitting trend, this is another level of anti-activity-activism. Quiet quitting is basically working to rule and doing only what is required. Bare minimum Mondays are about avoiding the “Sunday scaries” and burnout. The woman who came up with it, or at least popularised it on TikTok is Marisa Jo Mayes. And she says this is something that started to affect her in March of 2020 when she was working in medical device sales. She quit that job and went into the creative economy.
She ends up spending less time working on Mondays, but says when she is focussed, she gets a lot more done so her productivity is the same as if she’d worked eight hours. And she also adds this: “I understand Bare Minimum Monday isn't realistic for everybody. I'm self-employed, I work from home, I'm not a mom. But for anyone interested in trying it, pay attention to where you're putting unnecessary pressure on yourself or setting unrealistic expectations.
