HALIFAX, N.S. — They are being called the worst followup rates in almost two decades. Nova Scotia’s Auditor General says if recommendations aren’t ...
As Deputy Auditor General, I have report to the Auditor General. I'm second in command and step in when the Auditor General is unable to fulfill her duties for whatever reason. I oversee the quality control of the office as well as the operational day to day of the office and certainly weigh in on audits as required. You're working within a political environment, but you're a nonpolitical entity.
It's important to note that in the recently tabled report, we have we have a 35 percent implementation rate for 2020 recommendations. So for audits that were tabled in 2020, 35 percent of recommendations were implemented. And just a just a little bit of inside baseball on this so listeners may have some additional context here. We pick a point in time. In October 2022, we go “What's the status then?” and we cut it off. That was our assessment period. We take it back two years.
As it relates to product that we tabled , specifically the follow up on recommendations from 2018, 2019, and 2020. That's a really key component of the accountability loop. Recommendations need to be completed. They are agreed by management to be completed. We really work with them to ensure that we get it right. And we take it really seriously and we do want to see recommendations being implemented. If not, the same issues that we identify in those audits will persist in the future.
