'My drug is the music. It's like being in a trance.'
"I didn't like the comments later on – talking about the drugs and stuff like that. I was freshly out of Djoubiti which is super conservative. I just had water in my body. I had an oral presentation at university five hours before. I was the overly good girl back then but it's still not me, not judging at all but [drug use] was so far from what I knew so even to mention that – I was terrified.
"When I discovered YouTube, after a whole day of surviving school, I would go back home and just spend hours, staying up and checking archives because I didn't speak English at the time. I had the words 'footage' 'archive' and 'interviews' and then all the names like Janet Jackson. It was just the algorithm doing it for me back then"
