A roundup of Monday's quarterfinal action in the South Jersey Coaches' Cup girls soccer tournament
Junior Ceci Deroian scored her third goal of the season to give Shawnee the lead in a 2-0 South Jersey Coaches’ Cup quarterfinal home win over sixth-seeded Williamstown. Third-seeded Shawnee will face 2-seed Eastern in half of a Coaches’ Cup semifinal double-header at DeCou Field in Cherry Hill on Wednesday.
Madelynn Sadusky assisted on the game-winner then scored one of her own after halftime. Mackenzie McCready added the helper for Sadusky.Mackenzie Borbi had four saves to lock down her 11th shutout. Shawnee has allowed five goals while winning 13 of its first 15 games. Sophomore Montgomery Draham scored in the final minute of regulation to lift Sterling to a thrilling road win in Woolwich. Unbeaten Sterling, which has won 14 games, with two ties, will advance to face top-seed Ocean City in a Wednesday semifinal in Cherry Hill.
Morgan Sims tied the game at one nine minutes into the second half. Elyse Simpson scored with two minutes to play to knot the game at two before Draham’s game-winner.Riley Lewin gave Kingsway a 2-1 advantage with 8:24 to play, before Sterling answered. Maddie Hicks scored the lone first-half goal, giving Kingsway its first lead.Junior Aubrey Benfield scored a goal in each half as Eastern advanced to a semifinal date with third-seed Shawnee. Benfield has a career-best 11 goals this season.
